Mental Health Planning

& Preventive Services

Counseling is not reserved for crisis-only situations. Kindle Counseling offers Adolescent & College-Age Mental Health Planning and Preventive services to reduce the likelihood that a mental health crisis will occur, and if one does, a prearranged mental health support plan will already be in place.

The transition to adulthood brings about significant changes, especially for college students. As they shoulder more responsibilities, meeting higher academic demands and navigating new relationships, many also grapple with the new challenges of being away from home and unfamiliar environments. Amidst the social dynamics with roommates and peers, they face constant social pressures, compounded by increased access to alcohol and drugs, which can lead to substance misuse. These circumstances can negatively impact the emotional and mental well-being of college students.

Anxiety and depression, prevalent among this demographic, often manifest during these formative years, with a significant portion experiencing mental health issues for the first time. Whether grappling with pre-existing conditions or newfound challenges, students must navigate these hurdles away from their familiar support systems. Additionally, they must seek care within adult-serving behavioral health systems, often for the first time.

By proactively engaging in mental health planning and preventive services before a mental health crisis occurs, clients will have easier telehealth or in-person access to a Kindle Counseling therapist, with whom rapport has been established. Additionally, clients will become better-equipped to utilize healthy lifestyle coping skills, benefitting overall mental health, as well as increase their ability to: identify early mental health warning signs, communicate about mental health, and activate their mental health support plan if ever needed.
